Event description

Description

LCR Activate supports digital and creative SMEs in the Liverpool City Region to grow and prosper by providing access to the future technologies they need to develop their products and scale up their businesses. We’re running a series of State of the Art events where businesses can get more information on the process of getting involved in LCR Activate, as well as an inspiring snapshot of some of the latest in emerging tech.

So join us for the first State of the Art event, looking at VR, AR & MR and features talks and demonstrations from creators at the cutting edge of virtual, augmented and mixed reality.

This event is perfect if you're looking to find out about LCR Activate, to develop a VR, AR or MR prototype or to experiment in the field or are searching for collaborators.

Projects featured include:

Hold by Invisible Flock - Invisible Flock are a Leeds-based arts organisation who has developed a prototype in situ with dementia care homes the Liverpool City Region with a tool to help families communicate with their loved ones through a remotely updatable digital book that is deployed in the care home setting.

Swap Bots by Draw and Code - Draw and Code are a key Liverpool-based SME exploring AR and games through to a commercial product.

Turning Forest by BBC R&D and VRTOV - The Turning Forest is a children's game and experience in VR which came about through a collaboration between BBC R&D and VRTOV and Surrey, Salford, and Southampton Universities in the North West. The research connected to The Turning Forest investigates the entire broadcast chain from capture and production through to reproduction in the home. BBC R&D in Salford experiment with new broadcast paradigms that can affect how production is done in the future.

Future Aleppo by Alex Pearson – Alex Pearson works closely with young Syrian Mohammed Kteish in reimagining Mohammed's memories of his destroyed home city of Aleppo. The VR component of the artwork is made with Marshmallow Laser Feast. Commissioned by Sheffield Doc/Fest, in partnership with FACT and with support from Arts Council England.

The programme for LCR Activate State of the Art events is still developing, so if you have any thoughts on the format of the event, topics or technologies we should cover or businesses/speakers we should invite, do let us know either in person at the event or via hello@lcractivate.co.uk

LCR Activate is £5million ERDF-funded project which, over the next 3 years, seeks to help companies in the Liverpool City Region Digital and Creative sector take big leaps forward in the fields of cognitive computing, high performance computing, cloud computing and merging data.
