Event description

Description

The Inns of Court College of Advocacy (ICCA) and the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) are delighted to invite you to the launch of our new guide: "Statistics and probability for advocates: Understanding the use of statistical evidence in courts and tribunals".

Hosted at UCL, this launch event will take the form of a seminar followed by a drinks reception; the format for the seminar is as follows:

  • Welcome from Derek Wood CBE QC (Chair of Governors, ICCA)
  • Introduction from Professor Ruth Morgan (Director, UCL Centre for the Forensic Sciences)
  • The Prosecutor's Fallacy, Professor David Ormerod QC (Law Commissioner for Criminal Law and Evidence)
  • Observations on Epidemiology, Dr Claire McIvor (Birmingham Law School)
  • Closing remarks, Professor Sir David Spiegelhalter OBE FRS (President, RSS)

ICCA has produced this guidance booklet in partnership with the RSS, as part of a programme of work to improve the reliability of expert evidence in court.

In the coming months, the College will continue collaborating with leading law practitioners and relevant organisations to address further areas of specialism within expert evidence.
