Hang onto yer hail Marys, doff your wimples and join us to celebrate the return of YE NUNS to STAY SICK after an absence of over 9 years! In fact, they last played for us in April 2013 at The Blind Tiger (remember there??) to celebrate our 5th birthday! Back then their Myspace page (remember that??) said, "We are The Nuns. We love The Monks. We play their songs. We're an all-lady six-piece band. Hurray!"
This is a rare showing from the best all-female Monks tribute in the entire world. Expect plenty of sprang, fuzz, squealing and noize.
“All female Monks tribute band Ye Nuns are fantastic. Way better than any obsolescent nu-garage rock revolution group I’ve ever seen.” - The Quietus
“The music has a simple, visceral effect delivered with such joy that the crowd in the packed tent are in motion from the first banjo twang to the last organ parp. The Monks’ warped genius has passed by musical osmosis to this unholy sisterhood.” - SoundsXP
"But who are The Monks?", I hear some of you ask. Well, The Monks were an American garage band formed in Gelnhausen, West Germany, in 1964. Assembled by five American GIs stationed in the country, the group grew tired of the traditional format of rock, which motivated them to forge a highly experimental style characterized by an emphasis on hypnotic rhythms that minimized the role of melody, augmented by the use of sound manipulation techniques. They're truly one of the greatest garage bands EVER and a pioneering force in avant-garde music. Not enough info for you? Check them out here....http://www.the-monks.com
