The one-day STCW Elementary First Aid course teaches you the basic principles of first aid at sea. Learn to identify life threatening conditions, perform CPR, recognise hypothermia and be better prepared to help a casualty in an onboard emergency.
The STCW Basic First Aid training is mandatory for all seafarers.
This course covers the requirements of the STCW code Convention Chapter VI, Section AV/1, Table A-VI/1-3, and is in accordance with the IMO model course 1.13
Trainees will learn:
· Assessment of needs of casualty and own safety;
· Appreciation of body structure and functions;
· Types of Survival Craft.
· Immediate action in case of emergency;
· Control bleeding;
· Shock management;
· Actions to treat burns and scalds;
· Rescue and transport a casualty;
· Use bandages and materials in the emergency kit.

Competence - Trainees must meet required competencies as required by columns 3 & 4 of the table. This will be achieved by practical demonstrations and examination.
Candidates must be at least 16 years old and be in good health and physical condition.

Cancellation Policy
UHI North, West & Hebrides reserves the right to cancel or defer the dates of courses.
In the event of UHI NWH cancelling a course, delegates will be deferred to another (scheduled UHI NWH) course or given a full refund if UHI NWH are unable to provide a course on dates suitable to the learner.
In the event of cancellation of a course by the delegate, business or their representative, the following charges will apply:
More than 28 days notice – 0% of course fee charged
15-28 days – 25% of fee charged
7 to 14 days – 50% of course fee charged
