Community event to share STEM outreach experiences and create new opportunities
Online
To mark International Women in Engineering Day 2021, the School of Science and Engineering at the University of Dundee will be hosting an event, aimed at bringing the community together to discuss how we can encourage people (with an emphasis on under represented groups) into STEM.
We will hear about some exciting STEM Outreach projects and activities followed by a workshop aimed at designing and creating joint activities.
Invited participants include school teachers, career advisors, outreach providers, STEM role models, industry partners and university staff and students.
The panel will include:
• Dr Ollie Folayan, Chair of AFBE-Scotland (Association for Black and Minority Ethnic Engineers)
• Ms Kerri Haynes, Programme Manager (East), STEM Ambassadors in Scotland
• Mr Duncan Gardner, Community Benefits Advisor, Balfour Beatty
• Mr Steve Beattie, Head Teacher and STEM Leader, Hayshead Primary School
• Miss Jayne Mays, Teacher and STEM Leader, Fintry Primary SchoolThe session will include an interactive workshop aimed at discussing, designing, and creating outreach activities, with tangible outputs.
We hope encourage activities for traditionally under-represented groups in STEM and end the event with some exciting projects to collaborate on, with an option to discuss support.
