Event description

Description

ID check / induction session for the STEM Ambassadors programme – please ensure you have registered before attendance.

This session is primarily intended as an opportunity for you to get your identification checked, in order to process your DBS application. Most STEM Ambassadors will then complete the online induction (please remember to log the date you've done this on your profile), but we are happy to run through the induction at this event if there is interest (please select the appropriate 'ticket').

  • 3.30-3.50pm - ID checking
  • 3.50pm-5pm approx - Induction presentation (on demand / if requested

Please make sure you arrive just before 3.30pm in all cases, as the room (G64) is only accessible to staff with swipe cards, so you will have difficulty accessing it if you turn up mid-session.

What to bring

Before attendance please ensure you have started your DBS application using the invitation link emailed to you, and bring with you the ID needed to complete your DBS check.

The ID shown MUST:

  • Match exactly the items you have listed on your DBS application
  • Include proof of your current address, matching the one on your DBS application
  • Be current (in the case of passports/driving licenses) and recent (in the case of bills etc)
  • Be the original documents - not photocopies, print outs from online banking, online banking on your phone, etc.

This is usually three items - a passport or UK driving license AND two other items such as a bill and a bank statement. For more information see www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check/documents-the-applicant-must-provide-.

Please note that we must check your ID in person for a Disclosure and Barring Check - therefore it is very important that you bring the relevant documentation to this session.

The induction session (optional) will include

  • An introduction to and understand the UK'S STEM agenda and relevance for STEM Ambassadors
  • Information about the range of activities you will have the chance to support.
  • How to access further training and resources
  • Tips on how to work effectively with schools and young people
  • Feel welcomed as as a STEM Ambassador volunteer!

If you do not stay for this part of the session, please ensure you complete the online slides and log the date you've done this on your profile (or let us know!)

Location

This meeting will be held in room G64 of the University of Brighton's Grand Parade building - this is the glass-fronted arts building on Grand Parade (just up from the Royal Pavilion), in Brighton town centre.

On arrival, please wait in the reception area. We will meet you here just before 3.30pm. If you arrive late, please ask staff at reception/caretakers to bring you through to G64, which is near the student services office.

Please note, as a town centre building car parking is not available on site - there are several multi-storey carparks locally and it is close to bus and train links.
