Event description

2-hour Induction, including a DBS Check, for new STEM Ambassadors

Over 30,000 STEM Ambassadors, from 17-70 years old, from over 2,500 different employers, volunteer their time, enthusiasm and experiences to encourage and inspire young people to achieve more and progress further in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Your STEM Ambassador induction will provide you with all the information you need to know about being a STEM Ambassador.

It'll be a fun and engaging session where participation is encouraged and where we work to support you in making the most out of your skill set and experience.

We consistently have excellent feedback and many ambassadors take the time to tell us how much they enjoyed their induction, and feel motivated and inspired to encourage the next generation to pursue STEM careers.

Please make sure you have completed the following before attending:

1. Register as a STEM Ambassador:

NB: you’ll be prompted to upload a photo when you register. The photo should be a passport photo or similar showing your whole face (you're allowed to smile!).

2. Complete your online DBS Application:

Please click the link to complete your online DBS Application at Click on ‘Start application’ and then fill in the organisation reference: HUBWM, and you don’t need a password. Please make sure to include your middle name(s). Guidance notes are available to help you to complete this online DBS application form: Click to view guidance notes

3. Collate your three pieces of required supporting ID documentation:

For most people, we can complete a DBS check with the following three documents:

  1. Passport (currently valid)
  2. Driving licence (full or provisional)
  3. Letter with proof of your current address (usually a bank statement or utility bill from the last 3 months or a council tax statement or p60 from the last 12 monthsl)

Please click here to find the full list of documents you can bring. (also available on page 12 of the guidance notes linked above).

Please make sure that:

1. All your documentation you bring to be checked are the original documents. We CANNOT accept paperless statements, print-outs of digital versions, or scanned, downloaded documents.

2. Atleast ONE of your documents has your current address (the same as the one on your DBS application)

What can I do if I only have paperless statements?

As we can only accept originals and cannot accept scanned, downloaded or photocopied documents, we cannot accept paperless statements that have been printed from the internet or from your computer. This can commonly be resolved by trying the following things:

  • Bank statement - you can go to your bank and they can print an in-branch copy of your statement. They could also stamp a printed 'paperless' statement.
  • P60/P45 - Your HR department can stamp/sign a printed copy of an e-p60 or a recent e-p45.
  • Council Tax - many councils in the area will still send these by post so do double check if you have one.

We'll be in room S0.10 on the ground floor of the Social Science Building at Warwick University. Click here to see interactive campus map.

The best place to park would be car park 9 or car park 10 at the University of Warwick. Please note there is a car park charge of £2 and you will need change for the machine.

Yes, once you sign up you’ll automatically be allocated to the correct hub (using your postcode). I already do STEM activities with my company, what’s the advantage of becoming a STEM Ambassador?

As a STEM ambassador you’ll receive a free DBS check and be covered by our public liability insurance for all STEM Ambassador activities provided you notify us of the activity in advance and are an ‘approved’ STEM Ambassador with a valid DBS check. Moreover, we can showcase the fantastic work your company is doing to promote STEM opportunities and support your community. We provide an induction, you’ll be invited to free networking meetings, have access to free training, and have access to our free resource library.
