For: Key Stage 2; Years 3-6; ages 7-11

Join Katie and Kevin Tsang (authors of the Dragon Legend series), Viviane Schwarz and Ben Shires to embark on a fantasy adventure. This interactive livestreamed event will inspire children to create their own fantasy books in which they are the heroes. Along the way, they'll encounter portals to strange worlds, magical creatures, potions and great adventures. Participants will develop an understanding of key motifs in fantasy fiction, engage in draw-along fun, and view magical treasures from the British Library's collection.

What to expect:

  • Kevin and Katie will discuss their Dragon Legend series and explore the ingredients of brilliant fantasy fiction.
  • Ben will examine dragons, magic spells and potions contained within enchanting historical wonders from the British Library's bookshelves.
  • Ben will give examples of classic fantasy fiction from Narnia to Alice.
  • Kevin, Katie and Ben will provide creative prompts to get children to start developing ideas for their own fantasy tales.
  • Viviane will lead make-alongs and draw-alongs, demonstrating how to create imaginative illustrations for the students' books.

What to bring:

Each child should have a minimum of five sheets of A4 paper and a pencil.
