About this event

Travel & Outdoor • Other

From buzzing insects and rustling leaves to trickling water, Quex Gardens is alive with sound — even from the plants themselves!

This playful Field Recording & Listening workshop invites you to experience Quex Gardens in a new way — through listening.

Led by sound artist Pedro Figueiredo and community gardener Rosie Carr, the session will explore the hidden soundscape of the gardens, from the calls of insects and the movement of leaves to the subtle electrical currents of plants translated into sound.

You'll be introduced to deep listening techniques and have the opportunity to experiment with recording equipment. You’ll also discover how tuning in to the garden’s soundscape can transform the way you connect with nature.

No previous experience is required. This activity is suitable for all ages, though children must be accompanied by an adult.

This workshop is one of a series of activities taking place during the Wellbeing Taster Day at Quex Gardens. By booking a place on the Field Recording & Listening Workshop, you are also welcome to join any of the other drop-in sessions happening throughout the day, including:

African Drumming with Jane Henya (12.30pm & 2.00pm)
Cooking with Produce from the Garden with Annie Nichols (11.30am – 1.30pm)
Garden Insects Walk with Simon Springate (1.00 – 2.00pm)
Sound Bath in the Listening Tent with Pedro & Rosie (2.30 – 3.30pm, drop-in)

Take time out to recharge, explore, and reconnect with nature!
