Step up and be the Legacy: Walk the Mandela Mile #forKofi
Event Information
Description
Join us in Parliament Square as we remember two great statesmen, Nelson Mandela and Kofi Annan
Here’s the story. On 18 July last year, to mark the centenary of Nelson Mandela’s birth, thousands marched in Johannesburg, led by Kofi Annan and fellow members of The Elders. To support this, Westminster UNA set up the Mandela Mile, the route between his statue on Parliament Square and his bust at the South Bank Centre; yes, it’s a mile! Individuals and groups who walked the Mandela Mile received a special Mandela badge.
In 2019, in memory of Kofi Annan who died exactly a month after the Johannesburg march, cities round the world will host their own Mandela Mile #forKofi. There will be a TV link-up between cities and wall-to-wall social media updates, with live transmissions from Parliament Square.
