The Centre For Autism Wellbeing Hub is delighted to welcome Stephen Unwin for our December Webinar. Stephen's talk is titled "Beautiful Lives: How We Got Learning Disabilities So Wrong".
About Stephen:
Stephen Unwin is a leading theatre director and playwright. He is also the father of a young man with severe learning disabilities and is a champion for the rights and dignities of people like him. His most recent book, Beautiful Lives: How We Got Learning Disabilities So Wrong was published in June 2025, and is a cultural, philosophical and political history of this forgotten minority, and an exploration of the contradictions and challenges of today.
In some ways this is a dark history and we do no-one any favours off we ignore the cruelty and neglect which has been so common. Stephen is, however, committed to helping to shape a better future and provide the resources of hope. Some may find this discussion challenging or upsetting, and may not be suitable for young children.
