Description

Stepping Up - The role of middle leader has changed beyond recognition and they are now expected to play a major role in effective and continual school improvement. The role has changed from one of maintenance to authentic leadership and individuals are expected to step-up to this role.

Stepping Up is a leadership development programme designed specifically for middle leaders and members of staff aspiring to middle leadership. The programme focuses on building a deep understanding about leadership and seeks to support delegates in developing the essential competencies, behaviours and attitudes required to lead a team/subject within an effective school

Stepping Up aims to:

  • Explore the 5 minds of effective leadership and associated leadership behaviours

  • Consider the qualities and characteristics of a high-performing team and how a leader established a culture for success

  • Support delegates in recognising and developing their role in building and sustaining a highly effective learning organisation

  • Introduce a range of organisational systems and processes for building a professional culture around excellent classroom practice

  • Develop delegate’s abilities in continually building capacity of self and others.

Stepping Up has been designed to help participants consider three key leadership themes and to explore three key learning questions:

Session one - Understanding The 5 Minds of effective leadership

Key learning question - What are the essential qualities, behaviours and attitudes of an effective leader?

Session one focuses on considering the qualities of an effective leader and how participants measure up against these. Management rarely changes things, it is leadership that has a more profound and sustained impact. Individuals within a leadership role must be aware of how their character impacts on team and organisational effectiveness.

Session Two - Leading the effective team

Key learning question - How do effective leaders increase capacity for improvement within a team situation?

Session two focuses on creating a culture that is ready for genuine transformation. Participants will consider their own team and identify the readiness and capability of its culture. Leaders must continually look at their team’s capacity for improvement and how this capacity can be increased.

Session Three - Leading learning

Key learning questions - How do the behaviours of leaders impact on learning and pupil outcomes?

Session three focuses on the core purpose of a school ....... Learning. The session considers how leaders create a culture built around shared values and a commitment to building outstanding classroom practice for every young learner. During this final module, participants will consider collective professional efficacy and the need for high levels of accountability throughout the school/team.

Dates: 19th January 2018, 19th March 2018, 7th June 2018 All sessions are 8:30 coffee and registration, 9:00 start and will end by 3:15pm. Lunch is provided.

This programme is free of charge for schools who have purchased our all-inclusive package (see www.lutsa.co.uk for details of the CPD package), otherwise the cost is £270 +vat.
