Stepping Up to Management

Two one day workshops aimed at introducing the core skills for managing a team. 

Each workshop is designed to be a complete learning experience, but taken together they can complement each other and provide a firm foundation for the challenges of leading and working with others effectively.

The workshops are designed with more than just the end result in mind, using a combination of traditional and cutting edge learning approaches to ensure the delegates enjoy the process and are thoroughly stimulated throughout. Practical and highly participative, delegates will be challenged to examine their own experiences, objectives and intentions. Each person will leave with a clear, individual and focussed plan for implementing the learning.

Part One – The Basics

The aim of this one day workshop is to provide you with the core management skills to enable you to cross the bridge from individual contributor to a team leader/supervisory or manager role.

Who is it for?

First time managers, supervisors, team leaders and staff looking to progress into a management position.


By the end of the workshop participants will be able to:

  • Explain the role of the first level manager
  • Choose an appropriate management style
  • Gain enthusiastic cooperation through motivation
  • Resolve performance issues quickly and effectively
  • Give and receive feedback constructively

Founder and Managing Director, Steve Goodwill has been a trainer and consultant for over twenty years, specialising in the development of interpersonal skills such as Steve GoodwillLeadership, Influencing, Team Working, Negotiations and Problem Solving. Stephen has worked with all levels of Management from Board members to Supervisors and with front line operators. He has worked with a variety of companies and with the NHS and other public organisations, in the UK, Europe and the Far East. His career has included commissioned service in the Royal Marines, Development Training, Systems Consultancy and Operations Management. Stephen has developed a number of long term modular programmes with some major organisations, where the “little and often” approach to learning has proved very effective. He is particularly interested in the effective and ethical uses of the outdoors in development training and has written two books on the subject. In his spare time he enjoys family time, outdoor activities and coaching rugby at Otley RUFC.
