Event description
Walk a month's worth of nurse's steps to raise money for St Elizabeth Hospice

About this event

Join us for our brand new virtual challenge! We're challenging you to walk the monthly steps of one of our nurses to help us raise vital funds for the hospice. Our nurses walk approximately 15,285 steps per day, this equates to around 428,000 steps a month and around 190 miles.

Your challenge is to walk 190 miles between 1 May - 30 June 2021 whilst raising sponsorship to support the vital work that our clinical teams do to support the local community.

Registration opens on the 22 March 2021.

Steps of a Nurse will be launched on the My Virtual Mission platform where you can link up your step counting devices or log your miles manually.

Simply split the distance over as many days as you like between the 1 May and 30 June. The platform will also allow you to interact with everyone else on the challenge and see where you are placing on the challenge leader board. For full details on the My Virtual Mission platform can be found on the website

To make your entry donation to the hospice, click the green 'tickets' button above. Once you have made your donation you must follow the steps in your confirmation email to complete your registration on the Virtual Mission platform. You will be sent an email from the hospice team with a joining link to the Virtual Mission platform.

Why should I join & fundraise?

St Elizabeth Hospice is an independent charity providing free services. Every year, our services cost £12.9 million to run, 70% coming from the local community. We rely on fundraising, donations, and volunteers to keep going.

This is your opportunity to help us continue our vital work whilst taking on this walking challenge.

How much is it to enter Steps of a Nurse?

Entry to the challenge is subject to making a donation of your choice between £10 and £20 to St Elizabeth Hospice

Can I join after the challenge has started?

Yes, however, we would encourage everyone to sign up by the 1st May to provide as much time as possible to complete the mission.

How long have I got to complete the challenge?

The challenge will start on the 1st May and you will have until the 30th June to complete it. You can split the distance over as many days as you like during this period, we just ask that you respect social distancing and applicable government guidelines that are in place at the time of the challenge.

How many places are available on the challenge?

There are an unlimited number of places on the mission so why not encourage friends, family, and colleagues to join you.

Is there a minimum age limit to participate?

You must be 18 years or over to register to take part in the mission. If you are under 18 years, your parent/s or legal guardian/s are required to register your account on the My Virtual Mission platform and by doing so give consent and assume responsibility for you taking part in the mission and using the mission platform services.

How do I log my activity on the My Virtual Mission site?

You can log your activity on the platform using the Fitness Apps including Strava, Fitbit, Garmin etc or manually if you prefer.

What is Strava?

Strava is a social-fitness network that can be paired with numerous fitness/activity trackers (Garmin, Fitbit, Apple, etc). Your Strava account can then be paired with our event host website/app to automatically sync and move you along the Steps of a Nurse Challenge.

Where can I download the Starva App?

The Strava App can be downloaded free of charge from or most App stores

How will I know how much of the route I have completed and have left to do?

When you log your activity, you will be able to see how far you have travelled along the route. You can also click on street view to see the actual place you have arrived at. There will be milestones along the way marking various different hospice service areas so that you can see life through our of nurses' eyes whilst taking on their steps.

Do I need to show proof of completing my distances?

No. If it's linked up to Strava, that's fine, but if you use manual entry, we just ask you to enter your best estimate of the distance completed after each ride.

When will I receive my e certificate?

On completion of the challenge you will automatically be sent your e certificate.

Organiser St Elizabeth Hospice

Organiser of Steps of a Nurse

St Elizabeth Hospice aims to improve life for people living with progressive and terminal illnesses.

Our work is centred on the individual's needs and we provide specialist support wherever it is needed; whether that is in your home, in the community or at our hospice. We offer expert care and support to help patients, and their families, maximise the potential from the time they have left.

We make no charges for our services and although we get some NHS support, the majority of our income comes through public support, either directly through fundraising, donations and volunteers, or through profits made by our retail teams.
