Stevens’ Cure was a botanical patent medicine for tuberculosis with an intriguing (partly apocryphal) origin in South Africa c1900; it was the subject of numerous court cases, and is said to have inspired HG Wells’ novel 'Tono-Bungay’ This talk will cover the story with an emphasis on two major participants: Major Stevens, the proprietor, and the eminent Swiss physician Dr Adrien Sechehaye, together with some recent enlightening discoveries.
