Event description
Explore drawing and monoprinting techniques with a focus on still life on this one day workshop.

About this event

On this workshop you'll explore drawing and monoprinting techniques to develop unique still life prints. Monoprinting is a direct and expressive form of printmaking which allows you to produce a series of one off prints.

Your tutor will guide you through some techniques to draw and print using still life objects as inspiration. You'll learn how to use oil based inks and our traditional etching presses in the print workshop.

Who is the workshop for?

This is a mixed ability workshop for complete beginners and those with some previous experience. Those who have some drawing and printmaking experience may benefit from a fresh approach to working.

What will I make?

You will draw objects and a composition onto A3 cartridge paper using a range of monotone media to first develop drawing skills.

You will also produce monoprints onto large sheets of A2 cartridge paper using oil based inks and our etching presses.

Who is my tutor?

Chris Eastham is an Artist and Teacher based in Leeds. She has a degree in Fine Art and has taught art and design extensively throughout her career, mainly in schools up to A level and also with some adult education classes. Since joining Leeds Print Workshop three years ago, Chris has been developing her decorative portraits and has regularly exhibited and sold her monoprints. She is an accomplished painter who was a successful contestant on Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year 2020.

Do I need to bring anything?

All materials and equipment will be provided including cartridge paper, a range of drawing materials, inks etc. You are encouraged to bring along some of your own drawing materials to try if you have them. It would be useful to bring a portfolio folder to take your prints home - these can be purchased from the print workshop if needed.

Covid Safety

Please visit our website here for further information on our current Covid-19 measures.

If I can't attend can I get a refund?

We will refund you if you cancel no less than 14 days before the start of the first session of the course, after this time no refunds will be issued. Please note Eventbrite’s booking fee is non refundable. By making a booking you are agreeing to our full course terms and conditions which can be found on our website here.

What if the course is cancelled?

We reserve the right to cancel the course for any reason (for example, insufficient bookings or if lockdown measures are put back in place). We will endeavour to give at least 7 days notice if the course is cancelled and in the event of cancellation we will, of course, issue you a full refund.

Accessibility

Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible. By their nature, some printmaking processes involve an amount of physical effort. Leeds Print Workshop is based in a basement studio at Patrick Studios, a bespoke venue for artists operated by East Street Arts. It is fully wheelchair accessible, with a lift, larger than standard doors and disabled toilet facilities. We recognise that everybody’s accessibility needs may differ, therefore please email us at hello@leedsprintworkshop.org to discuss any concerns you may have before booking. There is one dedicated disabled car parking space to the side of the building on Rider Street.

Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
