Join us at the Merseyway Workshop for a series of activities focused on the topic of the Fashion industry, Sustainable living and Upcycling.

About this event

Join Stitched Up and Plastic Shed for an afternoon of skill sharing and informative activities on the impact the fast fashion industry and the materials used have on our planet.

The first half of our 2.5/3 hour workshop will be a presentation by Stitched Up, following the production line of different materials and revealing the impact they have on the planet and the people that live in it. We will also explore the changes we can make to take action on sustainable fashion. Then we'll see what you've learned so far with a quickfire quiz.

After a short break both Stitched Up and Plastic Shed will be back for a workshop sharing their knowledge and skills on how to mend, upcycle and reuse materials.

Stitched Up: Re Do Your Denim.

Don’t chuck your holey jeans - mend them better!

Using patching and embroidery techniques and taking inspiration from Japanese Sashiko stitching,

We will help you to create visible mends that are unique and fabulous.

Skills: This is a hand stitch workshop. You will learn how to patch denim, and a variety of different embroidery stitches including Sashiko.

Level: Suitable for beginners

Bring: This is a short introduction to denim mending and you won’t need to bring anything. We will be working on small denim patches to learn the techniques - you can take your patch home and embellish a tired looking pair of trousers back to life!

Plastic Shed: Upcycle plastic materials to create a purse.

Learn how to transform soft plastic packaging into a new and strong fabric that you can use to create new useful objects.

We will provide you with a little package to create your wallet at home.

Skills: We will talk you through the different properties of plastic materials , give you a demonstration on how to iron soft plastic packaging safely and correctly and then transform it into a wallet.

With the same skill acquired you will be able to create many more different objects and let the creativity flow free.

Level: Kids will have to be supervised by adults.

Bring: You won't need to bring anything with you.

Let's learn and get creative together again!
