The link between an embroidered hanging made for Bess of Hardwick and a Balletto for Three made by Cesare Negri
About this event
An embroidered hanging made for Bess of Hardwick, Countess of Shrewsbury and a new Balletto for Three made by Cesare Negri for Lucia, Marchesa di Gambolo came together to inspire a Renaissance dance workshop for the Historical Dance Society Summer School in 2018.
The purpose of this lecture is to present further understanding of the parallels between the reconstruction of Negri’s dance, Fedelta d’Amore ,and the restoration of the embroidered hanging of Penelope, Perseverans and Paciens
The lecture will be given by Hazel Dennison. Hazel has worked in the practice and performance, teaching and researching of dance and drama at all levels of education, for the theatre and the community, in conferences and workshops.
These have included events for Historical Dance Society, the Early Dance Circle, Rothenfels Symposium and recently for Bauska Castle in Latvia. Her work focusses primarily on 15th century and 16th century sources of the English and Italian Renaissance.
