Event description

Description

Due to its extraordinary level of preservation Stobs Camp, near Hawick in the Scottish Borders, is an internationally important First World War site. It was an arena for Scotland’s preparation for war and the subsequent handling of First World War prisoners. The Stobs Camp Project, led by Archaeology Scotland, began a three-and-a-half-year journey in 2016 to better understand Stobs and the role it played, to value, share and commemorate Stobs and the people connected to it and to protect the camp for future generations.

Join the Project Officer, Andy Jepson, for this illustrated talk to learn about the camp's history during the First World War bringing to light what was known about Stobs before the Project began. Then find out about the geophysical work, excavation, surveying and metal-detecting and gain an insight into genealogical research, oral reminiscence, the search for camp buildings and the centenary of Armistice. And so much more! Discover the Project's legacy and what its aims are for the future!

Join Archaeology Scotland at the Scottish Living History Festival for a wonderful day of free activities, talks, workshops, ren-enactment battles and more! Check out our website and Facebook for more information!
