Event description

Description

The Hand That Feeds : A musical about Food Crime, is being performed on the steps of St Martin's in the Bullring Church (see photo above) with musical accompaniment, haunting woodwind all supported by Castle Vale Community Choir.

Would you like a #StopFoodCrime goodie bag? Goodie bags can be collected before the 12.00 performance or we can hold one for you to be picked up before the 2.30 performance. (Digital packs are being created for those who opt to watch the livestream.)

Tickets are FREE. Listen in as you pass by on the street, stay and listen for a while before moving on with your day, but you are more than welcome to stay a while and watch from start to finish. We are performing twice, once at 12.00 and again at 2.30pm so if you really like what you see and hear come back after some shopping and watch all over again!

Only those who register will get a goodie bag.

The Hand That Feeds (a musical commissioned by think tank for scientist organisation The New Optimists) contains nine songs with superbly crafted lyrics by writer Mez Packer and set to music by composer and jazz musician Sara Colman.

  1. Hardworking Family Man
  2. Green Green Green
  3. Vodka Rap
  4. Two Chefs
  5. Allowed
  6. Checks and Balances

Do you know Avenue Q? << Listen to this song "It's a Fine Fine Line".

Avenue Q is a quirky musical, wikipedia cites it as "an autobiographical and biographical coming-of-age parable, addressing and satirizing the issues and anxieties associated with entering adulthood." On our first day of production Avenue Q, South Park the Musical and Book of Mormon were all cited as inspiration for the musical style of The Hand That Feeds. I couldn't wait to hear the first song.

"The Hand That Feeds" is an ethical awakening of the lead character Robbie, a "Family Man" (our opening song) and his journey to understand that his actions, no matter how perceptually insubstantial he feels they are, impact on the greater whole.

See you on Saturday 14th May

Don't forget to pick up your #StopFoodCrime goodie bag!

Those who sign up to watch the live stream you will receive links nearer the time.
