Event description

Description

Experience the folklore of Southeast Asia, a diverse region spanning the waterways and trade routes between India and China. From Buddhist wisdom to Hindu epics, from Islamic motifs to indigenous spirit beliefs, enjoy a storytelling tour of stories from culturally and religiously diverse nations such as Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Indonesia, presented by local, Hampshire storytellers.

This event is a fundraiser for Nicole Schmidt, a Bournemouth secondary teacher doing a summer volunteer project with Limited Resources Teacher Training She is doing a teacher training project in Malaysia this summer with a non-profit called Limited Resources Teacher Training. She’ll be working with local education authorities to do observations of teachers in rural Malaysia and then create bespoke training in effective pedagogy. Participants have to raise the funds so that the service is totally free to the local teachers. In turn, she gets the unique opportunity to see teaching practices in another culture and is certain that she has a great deal to learn from teachers in other contexts.
