Event description

Description

Initiatives of Change is hosting The Forgiveness Project to talk about shared humanity, reconciliation and forgiveness - key values for IofC’s vision of inspiring, equipping and connecting people to play their part in building a better society.

Speakers:

When Margot Van Sluytman was eight years old her parents moved from Guyana to Canada in order to bring up their three children in a safer environment. In March 1978, when she was 16, Margot’s father was murdered during an armed robbery at the Hudson Bay store where he worked. Many years later Margot embarked on a path of reconciliation with her father’s killer. Today Margot is a poet, publisher and founder of the Sawbonna Project, a justice organisation that encourages respect, responsibility, and relationship within the crucible of our shared-humanity.

Marina Cantacuzino is an award-winning journalist. In 2003, in response to the invasion of Iraq, she embarked on a personal project collecting stories of people who had lived through trauma and injustice, and sought forgiveness rather than revenge. As a result, Marina founded The Forgiveness Project which collects and shares stories from individuals and communities who have rebuilt their lives following hurt and trauma.

There will be refreshments at 6.30PM, followed by a 7PM start.
