Description

StoryLab: Storytelling Workshop

This 3-day workshop aims to develop participants’ creative engagement with story for the narrative moving image. Participants will have an opportunity to explore methods and techniques to enhance their ability to articulate their personal vision. During the workshop, each participant will develop a piece of new work for the narrative moving image screen. This could be fact and/or fiction for a feature film or a short film. Projects will be developed to a stage where there is a solid foundation for further development outside the context of the workshop. The emphasis will be to help develop original, creatively independent work. The workshop is free of charge for all participants.

StoryLab Network: post-workshop engagement

The StoryLab workshop is part of the international StoryLab Network - a series of workshops for independent filmmakers in three cities on three continents: Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Accra (Ghana) and Ibague (Bogota). A unique feature of this network is the lateral collaboration it will encourage between researchers and filmmakers in Malaysia, Ghana, Colombia and the UK. The StoryLab Network aims to bring together participants from all workshops in international collaborations through the network's online channels. Information about these international collaboration opportunities will be provided at the end of the workshops in each country.

Workshop Participation

To ensure the best possible engagement between instructors and filmmakers, the number of participants is limited to 12-16. Everyone who is interested in storytelling and actively developing an idea for an audio-visual work, potentially in an international collaboration, is welcome to this workshop. Participants should be serious about making films and should have made or worked on at least one audio-visual project and/or written one script (of any length or genre) after completing their formal education - to indicate that they are indeed passionate about making films.
