Event description
Storytelling in prose - a workshop with Sarah Dobbs

About this Event

Many of us are used to thinking visually to create prose. With performance, creating your contract with the audience feels somehow even more crucial right from the beginning of your piece. This forces a necessary sharpening of technique.

So how can we use theatricality in prose writing?

This workshop introduces prose writers to methods used to create work for performance and uses these methods to reconsider approaches to prose.

We will first analyse clips of theatre and performance, uncovering the meanings inherent in the physical language and symbols used in these works. We will then explore a page of your own writing and consider how we can utilise techniques drawn from our developing knowledge of performance.

Please note: no knowledge of theatre or performance is required! This is an informal, enjoyable and helpful workshop. Please have a page of your own writing ready to work with (any prose format is fine). Open to all levels.
