Event description

Description

Part of our Lazy Sunday afternoon Film Club. Join us for just £5 (includes a cuppa) for a lazy Sunday afternoon, taking advantage of our new cinema equipment here at The Joinery in central Settle.

Narratives of African countries in Western media are often negative - focussed on war, corruption and poverty.

In Storytelling in Africa: Changing the news narrative we present a series of short documentary films by Thomas Lewton.

Thomas grew in neighbouring village to Settle, Giggleswick and attended Settle College. Now a professional filmmaker he has travelled the globe and is currently living and working in Uganda.

In this presentation of film shorts, Thomas tells stories of cutting edge science, radical activism, and pan-African unity. While the challenges the continent faces are real, so too are the ingenuity, resilience and compassion of its people.

The screening will be followed by a live streamed Q&A with Thomas from Uganda, giving you the opportunity to find out more about his own story and how the films were made.

Suitable for those 16 years +
