Event description

Description

Storytelling in Performance is a series of performances by leading storytellers in Wales followed by a discussion with the artists. These events are jointly organised by the George Ewart Evans Centre for Storytelling and Beyond the Border. This year’s series features Robin Williamson in conversation with Prof. Joseph Sobol, Daniel Morden in conversation with Dr Emily Underwood-Lee and Tamar Elenud Williams in conversation with Dr Marta Minier.

The Empty Hand, Daniel Morden

What would you do if the one you loved was taken from you? How far would you go to find them? would you go to the Otherworld? to Hell?.... These long- forgotten tales take you on epic journeys across this world and to another.

Daniel Morden is one of the leading exponents in the art of storytelling. Daniel has delighted audiences all over the world with his performances including the Vancouver, Oslo and Yukon story telling festivals, The Hay, Beyond The Border, Bath and Cheltenham festivals and at venues such as The Barbican, The National Theatre and The British Museum. He has also worked on television and radio, and has published six children’s books. He was recently awarded the Hay Festival Medal for his contribution to storytelling. He has toured widely with The Devil’s Violin. He is also an award-winning author. This piece was commissioned by Three Monkeys.

The performance will be followed by a post-show discussion between Daniel and Dr Emily Underwood-Lee. Emily is Research Fellow at the George Ewart Evans Centre for Storytelling. Her research focuses on performance, autobiographical stories and the body in a variety of contexts including feminist performance art, narratives of illness, performance and the maternal, and performance and disability.
