Description

Storytelling in the Social Sciences

Part of the ESRC's Festival of Social Science

How can social scientist researchers better communicate with non-academic audiences, and particularly with policy-makers and practitioners, to inform social policy and pursue social justice?

Faced with increased attention on metrics and “big data”, and with ethnography often not taken as "science", can storytelling be part of the solution and a future of more genuine impact for social science research? How can social scientists resist the negative aspects of "metric power" and harness its qualitative research methodologies in a more practical way?

Using storytelling as both the theme and format of the evening, our expert panel will discuss and debate the impact of social science research outside of research institutions and communities.
