Event description
A full-day workshop exploring storytelling and nature.

About this event

*Please note that although this event is part of the Ten Directions training course for ecotherapy practitioners, anybody can book and take part in this public online event! If you are interested, please do buy a ticket.*

Myths, legends, fairy tales and folk tales are often deeply entwined with nature. This workshop proposes nature-based storytelling as a form of therapy in itself. You will learn some basic storytelling skills and look at ways in which we can bring storytelling into our ecotherapy work, as well as looking at ways of telling stories that honour nature.

This workshop specifically focuses on the traditional, oral storytelling tradition. We will share stories with each other using voice and we will have plenty of space to discuss and share powerful myths and legends (particularly those that relate to the natural landscape). We will also touch upon other ways of sharing nature-based stories. It will be a relaxed and fun day of myth and creativity!

Stephen McCabe’s ecotherapy work blends nature with story from many angles. In 2020 he created an online nature course which offers myths and folk tales as inspiration for nature-connection. He is currently researching lost nature-based folk tales from the Moorfoot area of Scotland and he is writing a small book offering these tales as inspiration for ecotherapy activities.
