Storytelling Through Acting: Developing Character

Join Manjot Sumal for an introduction to exploring character. You’ll act out a simple scene with a partner, try different acting exercises, and find out how physical and vocal choices can help you explore who your character is and how they react in the scene.

Who is it for?

If you identify as South Asian and you are curious about performance or theatre then Threads if for you! You don’t need to have any previous experience to attend Threads workshops and you can attend as many as you’d like or just one that interests you. Workshops are for adults 16+.


What to expect?

All of our Threads events are welcoming and inclusive spaces. Each workshop is 1.5 hrs long. Wear clothes you can easily move in and please arrive 15 minutes early.

About Manjot

Manjot is a Scottish Punjabi Actor/Writer best known for playing the role of PC Surjit Singh

in BBC Scotland’s mockumentary 'Scot Squad'. Currently one of the cast members on BBC Radio Scotland’s satirical sketch show 'Noising Up', he has also appeared in 'Still Game', 'Guilt - 3', 'A Long, Long Crime Ago', 'The Demon Headmaster' and in the feature films 'The Lost King' and 'The Last Bus'.

In theatre he has appeared in 'If I Had A Girl' & 'One Mississippi' for Bijli Productions, and 'Heer Ranjha (Retold)', the Play, Pie And A Pint production of 'Castle Fallon' and the Traverse Theatres 'Class Act' initiative.

As a writer, Manjot co-devised, co-wrote & starred in the play 'How To Make A Killing In Bollywood', was a part of the BBC Writersroom New Scottish Voices 2020 and was a Writer In Residence for the Traverse Theatres 2022 Creating Spaces and Breakthrough Writers Initiative.
