Event description

Description

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) cares for the graves and memorials of 1.7 million servicemen and women who died in the two world wars.

Did you know it is also one of the largest gardening organisations in the world?

We have a global gardening workforce of more than 850. CWGC gardeners tend 510 km of front borders, 87 km of hedges and 97 hectares of turf in Western Europe alone.

In 2017 we are celebrating 100 years of great gardening at the CWGC with a garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

The CWGC Centenary Garden, which was funded by private donors, showcases our rich artistic tradition and the talented craftsmen working for the CWGC around the world. Designed by award-winning gardener and TV personality David Domoney in collaboration with the CWGC's David Richardson, it is a peaceful, contemplative space.

Straight from the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, David Richardson will share his experience and insight of this great gardening organisation in a free, illustrated talk.

David Richardson is the CWGC Director of Horticulture and a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Horticulture.

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission: one organisation, 1.7 million stories.
