Calling straight allies – help us create gay friendly workplace!
The newly launched DfT (c) LGBT+ Network is off to a great start – recent guest speaker events and socials have enabled colleagues to connect and discuss some of the important issues affecting the community. The Network wants to work with the department to do more to support LGBT+ staff so that everyone feels safe and comfortable being themselves at work.
Straight people have a critical role in creating LGBT+-friendly workplaces. Their involvement – often precisely because they’re not LGBT+ themselves – can have a transformative effect on the culture of an organisation and the workplace experience of staff.
This session will look at how allies can support LGBT+ colleagues and make the workplace a more friendly environment. There’ll be an opportunity to hear from allies in the department on why they think this issue is important, their experiences, and what others can do to help. We’ll also hear from the DfT and Home Office Networks on some of the key issues they are facing in this area and the work underway to address them.
LGBT+ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and other sexual and gender minorities.
