Right to Build Task Force Masterclass: Strategies for Diverse Housing – Unlocking Delivery Through Custom and Self-Build

As the planning system continues to evolve, local authorities are under increasing pressure to deliver more homes—more sustainably and with greater diversity. This webinar will explore the changing national policy context and landscape of Local Plans, and how Custom and Self-Build (CSB) can be strategically embedded to support effective housing delivery.

The session will highlight:

  • Why robust evidence is essential for preparing sound and effective CSB policies
  • How a multi-strand policy approach can address varied requirements in terms of site size and delivery timeframes
  • How CSB can contribute to broader housing objectives through innovative and inclusive planning strategies

We’ll showcase four local authority approaches from across England, each offering a unique perspective on CSB in rural, semi-rural, urban fringe, and urban settings. These case studies will demonstrate how CSB is being used to:

  • Address varied housing needs and site contexts
  • Contribute to housing targets through alternative delivery models
  • Engage communities and unlock smaller or underutilised sites

Whether you're a planner, policymaker, developer, or housing advocate, this session will provide practical insights and inspiration for integrating CSB into your strategic planning toolkit.
