A linear walk along Streatham High Road and Streatham Hill exploring Streatham's amazing inter-war architecture – from Art Deco to International Modern. Meet outside Streatham's former police station at 101 Streatham High Road.
The walk is led by Robert Doyle of the Streatham Society. Robert will explain how Streatham came to have a greater variety of luxury flats and entertainment buildings in the 1930s than anywhere else south of the River Thames.
As in previous years, we will be aiming to visit the courtyards of some residential developments, but please note photography is not allowed at these locations and access is at the site owners discretion and cannot be guaranteed. TfL roadworks in Streatham Hill may limit views of some buildings.
The walk is on level ground apart from a few steps on visiting the grounds of some developments. The length of this walk is more than a mile, and we will need to maintain a brisk pace between stops.
This walk will be repeated on Sunday 19th October as part of the Streatham Festival 2025. The Streatham Society was one of the founding funders of the Festival and provides ongoing support to the festival as well as running its own programme of talks, walks and events. For more details visit www.streathamsociety.org.uk/
