Calling street art lovers and sceptics alike,

Interested in the urban environment? Intrigued by how street artists change our cities? Want to challenge your ideas about public art, graffiti and vandalism?

If you want to discover more of London and are curious about what makes good quality street art, then these free, expert-led street art workshops could be for you.

Five workshops will take place across London to explore street art, tags, posters, stencils, sculptures and graffiti. Each workshop has two stages – in the first stage, you’ll take photographs (you’ll need to bring your own digital camera, a camera phone is fine) and we’ll visit a street art site and explore – what do you think adds value? What do you think is detrimental? Why? In the second stage, one week later, we’ll meet somewhere warm, have a complimentary drink, and debate and discuss what you’ve seen. We’ll be joined by one of the top experts in London street art who’ll give us a tour of the area and offer some of their best insights.

Workshop 4 will take place in Shoreditch: Blackall Street on Sunday, Nov 3rd, 11am-1pm and Sunday, Nov 10th, 11am-1pm and you will need to be free for both dates in order to participate. Meeting point is in front of Shoreditch High Street Overground Station.

The Street Art and Graffiti Workshops are a public engagement project funded by the Public Engagement Unit at University College London. They are part of a wider PhD research on the impact of street art and graffiti on different urban spaces. By taking part in the workshops, you are going to contribute to defining a distinction between the desirable, valuable street art and the poor, unappealing marks on city surfaces.

This workshop will be run in collaboration with Joe Epstein.

Joe Epstein is the London-born founder of LDNGraffiti, where he has been documenting London street art and graffiti for over 6 years. Joe has a unique insight into the diverse landscape the capital has to offer and the many artists working within it.
