Description

STREET PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Guided by a highly respected and experienced street photographer, this workshop is designed around you – to be an inclusive and immersive experience.

Whether you are shooting street for the first time or are a seasoned street photographer, the day will be tailored to you within a small group of no more than 5 attendees.

The workshop is structured yet relaxed and there will be something to learn with every shot you take. The goal is to expand the possibilities of your imagination, develop your skills and enable you to shoot in complete confidence.

It is highly recommended that you be comfortable with your camera of choice in order to maximise the time developing your street photography skills.

Primarily aimed at the art of street photography and storytelling, this is not a technical workshop but we will cover some practical photography techniques to make sure you capture images that you can be proud of.

The streets are unpredictable but the workshop aims to:

- conquer fears of photographing strangers and give you the confidence to shoot

- develop your eye for a street shot and to anticipate shots in an everyday street scene

- help you to understand the aesthetics of street photography and storytelling

- give you the tools to develop your own photographic style

- open up the power and possibilities of capturing street images

- equip you with the skills to adapt to rapidly changing scenes on the street

- share the technical side of street shooting: tools, settings, composition, light, etc

- share ‘tips and tricks’ to help you to achieve the shots you see in your mind’s eye

- give you the knowledge and confidence to shoot safely on the street

- give you the confidence to interact with the public, police and officials and how to deal with any questioning, or diffuse any possible confrontation

- cover the key legal, safety and ethical aspects of street photography

Frequently Asked Questions

What camera do I need?

Anything at all with which you can capture an image and a camera that you are comfortable using. This could be a mobile phone, compact, film or DSLR camera. It is important that you are competent with the basic functions of your camera.

What do I need to bring?

Yourself, your chosen camera (and lens), spare batteries, enough film or memory card capacity, comfortable clothes, suitable shoes and some spare cash for food and drinks. It would be a good idea to travel as light as possible.

What is the best lens to bring?

A 50mm or equivalent lens would be perfect and anything from 24mm to 85mm is a solid choice. I don’t recommend bringing telephoto or telephoto zoom lenses. The aim is to build confidence and to get you close into the scene, to feel the story and then capture the story.

Will there be a lot of walking?

Yes. This is a full day workshop on the city streets however there are plenty of places to take the weight off for a moment if need be.

What if it is raining?

We keep shooting and carry on. Rain, snow, wind and all things in between make for excellent street photography opportunities. Just make sure that you and your gear are adequately protected from the elements. A lightweight lens and camera are great for shooting one-handed if you need to hold an umbrella in the other hand.

Are there any other costs?

You will get a free tea or coffee to start the day but will need to cover the cost of your own lunch and further refreshments. There may be an occasional fee for public transport to another location, such as the subway, but the cost will be minimal.

Can I get one-to-one tuition?

Absolutely. This will be completely separate from the group workshops and will be catered to your personal objectives and artistic needs. Just get in touch.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

The minimum age for attendees is 18 years old.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Contact by email: leanneboultonphotography@gmail.com

What's the refund policy?

Cancellations after 30 days but before 14 days of the course date will be partially refunded by 50% of the course fee.

Cancellations after 14 days before the course date will only be refunded under exceptional circumstances.
