London’s streets and public spaces do not attract all Londoners equally. Why is this, and what can we do to ensure all feel welcome?

About this Event

This free evening of talks and discussion, as part of Sustrans’ Street Talks programme, will bring together 5 leading figures with experience of creating streets and a public spaces for different groups. They will present their ideas and discuss what London needs to do to make its streets for everyone.

Xavier Treviño , of the urban designers Céntrico : shifting Mexico City towards a more people-friendly, less car-dominated city.

19.05 Holly Weir, Researcher at the University of Westminster: Child-friendly neighbourhoods - factors that affect children's experiences of their neighbourhoods and how these impact on their well-being.

19.20 Elsie Owusu, Architect and Specialist Conservation Architect: how London's streets and spaces can be designed for everyone.

19.35 Christine Murray, Editor-in-chief of The Developer, Creative Director of Festival of Place, founder of the Women in Architecture Awards: how can we make streets better for as many people as possible?

19.50 Hugh Huddy , Policy and Campaigns Manager at the Royal National Institute for the Blind: designing public spaces for the blind and partially-sighted people.

About Street Talks

There is a movement to make London’s streets and public spaces fairer, healthier, greener and more liveable. Street Talks are a series of informal events that are open to anyone and facilitate discussion into a diverse range of ideas and topics around travel and public spaces in London.

Inherited from the Movement for Liveable London, Sustrans has been leading the organisation and management of Street Talks since 2017.

Street Talks are an opportunity for anyone with an interest in travel and public spaces in London to meet with others involved in cycling, walking, architecture and design to explore and discuss insights, best practice and plans.

Who can take part?

The events are open to everyone; professionals, commentators, campaigners and individuals.

Each event includes guest speakers and gives the opportunity for collaborative thinking and sharing.
