Event description

Description

Living Streets Scotland is pleased to offer a free half-day workshop in Edinburgh for people who would like to explore approaches to making streets inclusive and accessible for disabled people by involving local communities.

The workshop is based on a recent collaboration between Living Streets Scotland, Perth and Kinross Council and the Centre for Inclusive Living Perth and Kinross. A new case study (“Streets for Everyone”) describes this programme of community street audits over the past two years which aims to improve the walking environment for disabled people. The case study considers wider lessons for how to make ’streets for everyone’.

The workshop will be of interest to anyone wanting to promote more inclusive local streets including: people from community groups, access panels, local authorities, and partners from public health and other sectors. There will be opportunities to discuss participants’ specific objectives and learn from each other about the opportunities and challenges likely to be encountered.

A formal launch of the case study, involving some of the local participants in the street audits will also take place in the spring in Perth.

The workshops will:

  • Outline the Perth and Kinross case study (a copy of ”Streets for Everyone” will be available);
  • Consider the lessons arising from this work - and other possible approaches to making streets more accessible to all;
  • Provide an opportunity to share information with each other on local initiatives aiming to make local streets more inclusive;
  • Share information on relevant networks, guidance and resources.
  • Attendance is FREE; tea and coffee provided
