Event description

Description

Strengthening the City Through Advocacy 2 is a follow-up to last year's Strengthening the City Through Advocacy event. Here, we will be relaunching the Leeds Advocacy Network, a network of groups that provide a wide range of formal and informal advocacy support to people in Leeds.

The event will be about planning together, whilst building on the diverse range of advocacy activity of all kinds that is going on throughout Leeds. We will also have six separate workshops running simultaneously on the following areas:

  • Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) laws: How we can influence change

  • Filling gaps in advocacy provision

  • Developing self-advocacy tools

  • Reaching out to isolated communities

  • Neighbourhood self-advocacy

  • How advocacy can work alongside existing support

The event is open to people from charities, community groups, public sector and third-sector organisations throughout Leeds. It is also open to the general public.

It is completely free to attend. There is a wheelchair-accessible entrance and accessible toilets available at the venue. Paid-for parking is available at the nearby Rose Bowl building.

FAQs

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is parking at the Rose Bowl building nearby. As for public transport, there are a number of services that stop on Woodhouse Lane near the side entrance of the Civic Hall.

These include the 1, 6, 56 and 97 service, all of which run at least six times an hour during the daytime on weekdays. The nearest bus stop to the Civic is in front of the Leeds City College Technology Campus building.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

You can send us an email to office@advonet.org.uk or call us on 0113 244 0606.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

You can either bring your printed ticket or an electronic version on your smartphone.

Can I update my registration information?

You can.

Is the venue accessible for disabled people?

It is. There is a wheelchair-accessible entrance on the right hand side of the Civic Hall. A lift will take you to the same level as the Banqueting Suite. There is also an accessible toilet.

At the time of writing, we are trying to arrange the use of a quiet room for any guests who are feeling overloaded in case the event is too noisy.
