This session is designed for those with line management responsibilities who wish to build resilience and support people with stress in their teams.

Part One -Understanding Stress and Building Resilience.

The interactive and lively mornng session includes: -

  • Defining and understanding stress
  • Recognising the signs, causes and outcomes of acute and chronic stress
  • Effective tools for coping with the physiological results of stress
  • Thinking our way into resilience -cognitive /behavioural approaches to stressful situations
  • An introduction to mindfulness and musculoskeletal relaxation

Part Two -Line management competencies for stress in the workplace

In the afternoon, we examine a range of management approaches to support your colleagues, protect your organisation and give you the confidence that you are tackling stress the best way.

  • Stressful workplaces -the HSE Management Standards for Stress
  • Two risk assessment approaches -which one is most appropriate for you?
  • The Line Manager Competencies (developed by the CIPD /HSE) -how are you managing now? (Self-assessment to be completed in advance)
  • Managing absences and conversations about stress
  • An introduction to the Resilience @ Work psychometric tool


About your trainer

Rob Woollen Resilience Specialist


In his Master's Degree in Work and Wellbeing, Rob Woollen explored the relationship between "good work" and employee health -with a specialist interest in personal and organisational resilience. Formerly a Regional Engineer in the construction industry, Rob combines his experience as a manager with the most up-to-date literature on wellbeing. Passionate about providing strategies to enhance resilience that are both backed by evidence, and accessible to normal busy people, Rob speaks internationally on the subject at both professional and academic conferences. He continues his research as a lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health, and the Higher Education Academy.

We are happy to refund the cost of your ticket at any time up until 30 days before the event. An administration fee of £10 is payable.

No don't worry -we have a full attendee list

Yes -please feel free to amend your infromation. Please be aware that training packs are produced in advance, so for courses requiring personalisation, we may be unable to alter those details.

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

Yes -we are sorry if you cannot make it to the training as planned, but please feel free to transfer your ticket to a colleague (see above)
