Event description

Description

Stress Busters is an informal, fun, six-week community course to help members of the public understand and manage stress. Stress is an umbrella word which includes a wide variety of feeling states incl worry, anxiety, shyness, panic and low mood. At the end of the course attendees will be able: 1) to understand/explain what they are feeling, and why, and 2) have a wide range of practical techniques to manage different mood states, while also improving their confidence and well-being.

The course starts Tues Feb 6th in DCM, Dublin City Centre (opposite Whynn's Hotel), and continues for another five Tuesdays 6-7.30pm. Stress Busters is educational rather than counselling, i.e. at no point will attendees be asked in front of others to answer a question directly, or to talk about how they are feeling. Instead, all information will be on slides and in handouts. Additionally, there is no assumption that attendees are stressed as it is quite fine to attend this course for information and prevention, as well as support. This course however would not be suitable for anyone in crisis; in such cases 1-1 CBT support may be more suitable.

Stress Busters is a prerequisite for other courses and supports within “The I Can Centre”, incl courses on happiness and well-being, This Stress Busters course is also a prerequisite for monthly “Stress Café” meetups and Moodsters events. CPP certificates are available to all those attending at least four out of the six weeks (and ideally all six weeks). Mood surveys are given weekly to evaluate progress towards these health outcomes.

Note:

- The course closes to new attendees from Week 2. This is because so much material is covered each week that it would be difficult for anyone new to catch up.

- Attendees must agree to abide by all reasonable requests from the course leader with the aim of ensuring a safe, productive and secure space for attendees, e.g. no recording of any kind is allowed, course material and techniques cannot be used with others or be disseminated outside the class (one exception is at Stress Café meetups), and attendees must be respectful of others and of differences of opinion.

- Refunds are not given (other than in exceptional circumstances such as a course not running) but people are quite welcome to attend week 1 as a stand-alone taster event. Additionally, name changes on tickets are allowed weeks 1 and 2 only, or it is also possible to postpone attendence to another time within a twelve-month period.

- Courses will only run once we have a minimum number of attendees; in these circumstances, we will alert you immediately re your options incl accessing a refund, or a postponement to the new course date.
