Event Details

Stress Busters is an informal six-week community course to help members of the public understand and manage stress which includes worry, anxiety, panic and low mood. The course starts Thurs Feb 8th in St Patricks Parish Centre, Chapel HIll, Lisburn, and continues for another five Thursdays 7.30-9pm.  Men and women of all ages, backgrounds and cultures are most welcome. 

 On this community course, attendees will gain techniques and insights to manage stress, anxiety, worry, and low mood.  This course is educational rather than counselling, so at no point will attendees ever be asked in front of others to answer a question directly, or to talk about how they are feeling. Instead, all information will be on slides and in handouts.  Additionally, at all times it is quite fine simply to say “Ill pass on that” or "no comment"  if you do not wish to contribute to a discussion.  Participants are welcome to attend this course for information and prevention, as well as support.

Note:

*If anyone is not sure whether this course is for him/her, it is possible to attend the first session only (for £15) and then pay the following week for the remaining five sessions.

Dr Ann O'Hanlon, PhD

Ann is a psychologist, CBT Therapist and DAKtivist (daily acts of kindness enthusiast). She completed two advanced degrees in psychology from the University of Southampton, and 5 years of postdoctoral psychology and research training at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Clinically, Ann has worked with a range of clients in public and private healthcare settings. She has also taught in higher education for nearly twenty years, and published many scientific journal papers and books, including a second edition academic textbook in psychology (2017). 

Ann is passionate about lifelong learning, and does not believe that people should have to wait until they are in crisis before learning techniques and tools to manage how they feel. Instead, by gaining these insights early, we believe that a lot of angst and distress will be avoided, and that people can soon add/regain quality in their lives and relationships. As such, Ann has drawn upon the best available evidence from psychology and CBT to set up “The I Can Centre” where people with health, educational or OCD-type thoughts around “I cant..” can be empowered and supported towards change.
