What will you learn?

Exploring Stress, Compassion Fatigue and Vicarious Trauma

At the end of this module, participants will be able to:

Map external stressors and internal belief systems and cognitive patterns that impact on stress
Explain the psychological and physiological symptoms and impact of stress
Define Compassion Fatigue, Burn Out and Vicarious Trauma
Identify how and why Compassion Fatigue, Burnout and Vicarious Trauma happen
Recognise the signs and symptoms of Compassion Fatigue, Burn Out and Vicarious Trauma
Consider systematic influences and how these can impact on an individual experience of Compassion Fatigue, Burn Out and Vicarious Trauma.

Managing Wellbeing

At the end of this module, participants will be able to:

Recognise roles and responsibilities for staff self-care
Apply effective professional boundary setting
Practice Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and grounding techniques for managing stress and anxiety
Identify components of emotional wellbeing using the PERMA (Positive emotions; Engagement; Relationships; Meaning; Achievement) Model (Seligman) and develop a bespoke self-care strategy.
