Description:

Enjoy a unique experience from Strolls 'n' Stories. Join Jan Little as she takes you on a walk through picturesque Trellech and the top of the Wye Valley. Stopping along the way Jan will become a character from the past! Through short performances, Jan will share with you the intriguing history of the location. Listen to Bertram Russell’s wife as she shares the joys and tragedies of their life together. Walk where Wordsworth walked and may have written one of his poems. See Cleddon waterfalls if there has been sufficient rain. Trellech, now a small village, was once bigger than Cardiff and, as its church and tall steeple suggest, it was a major town in the Middle Ages. Meet Mol the herbalist who lived in the tump castle around the time the plague contributed to the decline of the town. Listen to the standing stones who like to keep their secrets and visit the healing well where it is said cures for eye ailments can be found.

Register early. Spaces are limited. Ticket sales close 24 hours prior to the event.

Terrain: The walking portion of this event is approximately 5 miles. After two and a half miles we will stop for lunch. The walk is graded easy as it is primarily flat, with a gradual incline at one stage for a short distance.

Where to meet: We will meet at the Whitestone forestry commission car park in between Trellech and Llandogo, OS reference: SO 525030.

From Tintern: Follow signs for Catbrook and Trellech at the junction adjacent to the Wye Valley Hotel. Travel approximately 2.5 miles along this road to the junction with Whitestone Car Park. Follow the forest road to the main car park.

From Llandogo: Take the Trellech road beside the shop and parking area which climbs up and out of the valley. After about one and a half miles, Whitestone Car Park is on your right.

What to wear: Walking boots or other sturdy footwear is required. Dress for the weather (layers are best).

What to bring: Pack snacks/lunch and water. You may like to buy a drink at the Lion Inn at Trellech, but due to it being a bank holiday weekend with a possible long wait for food, people are requested to bring a picnic lunch. Please do not bring pets to the event. Guide dogs and other support animals are welcome.

Age: This event is suitable for ages 12+.

Attendees are responsible for their own safety and come on the walk at their own risk.

Not sure what to expect? Watch some sample videos.
