INSPIRATION TALK - Helen Lord - Watch the Quiet Ones (10.20am - 10.50am)

Talk will cover:

Why introverts ‘lose’ in business
What is an introvert anyway – it’s all about energy
Networking nightmares – and things you can do to make it easier
Changing perspective makes ‘selling yourself’ easier
Finding different ways to do things

Take Away:

It’s OK to be an introvert in business you just need to find different ways of doing things.

Helen has a background in training, coaching and teaching. Whilst working for Goldman Sachs, she was once flown to their Tokyo Office to train their support staff for a multi-million-pound deal. And later, whilst teaching at a college, she was rapidly promoted to mentor and train other teachers.

You’d think with that background she’d be a wiz at presenting – far from it. She once even locked herself in the loo on a presentation training course and refusing to come out till it was all over…. And, when presenting was an unavoidable part of her job, she’d spend hours and days preparing…. scripts and slides and notes and then after a sleepless night, she’d go to pieces once on her feet.

You see, Helen is actually an introvert; and standing and talking in public - even to a small group - takes a completely different skillset to teaching and training. And as for walking into a room full of strangers starting conversations, making connections and ‘selling yourself’, and the dreaded 60 second pitch at networking events….the introvert inside wants to run….

Yet in the world of business it is those who can speak who win the clients…..

Helen will always be an introvert but she is finding ways of making being an introverted business owner easier, more ‘doable’. And she is here to share some of her experiences and things she’s learnt about networking.
