Event description

Description

Who is it for:

This half day course is designed for anyone who works with autistic children and already has an understanding of autism.

Current research suggests children with ASD need specific supports to help them understand the world, predict what will happen and have a sense of control over their day to day lives in order to flourish. Putting in place appropriate child-centred structure, routines and visual supports and strategies are fundamental in achieving this.

Benefits

This training equips professionals in schools to help autistic children to understand school routines and expectations and to reduce anxiety and stress. The course provides useful practical strategies and resources for staff on how to support autistic CYP and how to manage their potentially challenging behaviour. By the end of the session you will have had an introduction to:

- Organising the physical environment

- Visually structuring materials for tasks and activities

- Using individualised visual timetables

- Putting in place work (activity) systems to move the child towards greater independence
