Event description

Description

The Student Money Team are pairing up with Leeds Beckett Students' Union to provide a Student Parents' Workshop.

It will take place on Friday 22nd June from 1:00 - 2:00 in the Rose Bowl, City Campus room 224 and will last for about an hour. This workshop is part of the Festival of Learning which is a week-long event aimed at promoting the benefits of learning for adults.

The workshop is designed for students who look after children, particularly single parents. They can already be studying here at the University or are planning to start in September 2018.

It will be an informal but informative interactive session that looks at the financial issues that student parents face and will cover funding, benefits, debts and budgeting issues. Student parents also will benefit from a networking opportunity with other parents to get together to share experiences.

John Tate, Student Money Adviser explained:

“The session is important for students with children, especially single parents, because they are faced with particular set of financial challenges at university. Arranging and paying for childcare, getting their correct funding and benefit entitlement and also budgeting for the extra costs that come with combining study and bringing up a family.

“The session will be an opportunity for students and prospective students with children to come together to share experiences and to find out about the help and support that is available for them at university.”
