Studio ICM with David Day

David Day:

"Dreams often shift abruptly from one interactive experience to another in unrelated yet seemingly connected ways. My work attempts to capture these experiences and provide opportunities for the viewer to make connections that would not otherwise be considered outside of lucid dream events.

This goal is achieved through the application of intentional camera movement (ICM) techniques that I have developed specifically for use in a studio environment.  The scenes I photograph are simple compositions of common materials found in the home.  Wire, weeds, leaves, twigs, plastic bags, newsprint, tissue paper, ice, and an assortment of small glass objects have all been used in my work. 

With careful lighting and execution of planned camera movements during an extended exposure time, I create images that impart multiple meanings, often with recollection of dreams, in many who view my work. My ongoing inspiration is the concept of pareidolia where the mind attempts to associate an image with something experienced in the past in order to provide meaning to that which is being viewed. With  intentional camera movement, it is possible to create an illusion of meaning that often does not exist outside of a dream state."
