Studio Open Play Time

The Play Tent studio is a new creative play and art space in Headingley.

Join us during term time on Mondays and alternate Fridays (click on 'check availability' for bookable sessions) 10-11.30 and 12.30 - 2.

We are inspired by the ethos of Reggio Emilia and believe in the competence and capability of all young children. Your young ones will be welcomed into a beautiful space, designed to spark curiosity and creative thinking.

There are two main rooms within the studio. The largest is our bright, airy, art room. The space enjoys plenty of natural light from huge windows onto the street below. In this room your children can express themselves creatively in mark making, sculpting and crafting using a wide range of quality art medium; paint, ink, charcoal, graphite, clay, wood, wire... Child height tables invite focussed work and a side by side easel encourages big movements and collaboration.

Also within this space we have a water table, sometimes filled with grain, sand or other 'flowing' sensory resources for investigating movement, capacity and form.

Our small kitchen is found here. Please help yourself to teas (herbal, decaf, yorkshire)or fresh bean Malawian coffee. Sit at the large table and maybe have a doodle, or relax on our sofa. We have a couple of highchairs for baby snacking. We want you to feel right at home.

Our low light second room is a calm, warm, cosy spot; connected to the art room by a child sized mouse hole. Within this room your children can be immersed in projections, inviting research into light and dark, movement and stillness. You can stretch out with your baby on our super soft rug, enjoying the movement of the textiles above. Or maybe cosy into a little wooden nook with a good book. Gentle music making invitations await together with stepping stones for trail creating! Light panels invite further research into colour and magical thinking. An abundance of open ended resources and loose parts to spark imaginative play.

In the corridor your young ones will encounter vehicles and things that roll! Magnets to explore and roads, ramps and balls. Science in action!

We have two toilets, one with baby changing facilities.

Free parking right outside our door on the first floor of Headingley Central.

We are also surrounded by super cool neighbours. Why not pop down to 21co or The Bowery downstairs for a post play session treat? Or enjoy lunch at Rudy's!
