Studio Wayne McGregor

Wayne McGregor CBE is a multi-award-winning British choreographer and director, internationally renowned for his trailblazing innovations in performance that have radically redefined dance in the modern era. His work spans across contemporary dance, ballet, choreography and movement for films (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), music videos (Radiohead’s Lotus Flower and Wide Open by The Chemical Brothers), TV awards shows (Brit Awards 2016 opening sequence) theatre, opera, advertising campaigns, fashion shows (Gareth Pugh), and site specific performance.

He is Artistic Director of Studio Wayne McGregor, the creative engine of his life-long choreographic enquiry into thinking through and with the body. In March 2017, Studio Wayne McGregor opened a creative arts space for making at Here East, the first, and so far only, arts organisation to be based on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Designed by innovative architects We Not I, the space comprises three dance studios, including two of the largest in London, and a series of playful spaces for making, developing creative practice and collaboration across arts, science, technology and research. We welcome the local arts community in Hackney Wick to contact us about using our meeting rooms at a special discounted rate.

McGregor and his world-class ensemble of dancers, Company Wayne McGregor are in creation of Autobiography, his most personal work to date, and his first new work to be made at Studio Wayne McGregor. Our new space embodies McGregor’s life-long interest in research and collaboration with science and technology research, and will be his centre for experimental creative projects in biology and genetics, AI, VR and new technologies. Autobiography will premiere at Sadler’s Wells in October, 2017.

Studio Wayne McGregor’s highly specialised Learning and Engagement programme has expanded with its new cornerstone programme, FreeSpace, a major artist development and community engagement initiative, the PEER mentoring scheme, and the 2017 Summer School for dance professionals, the first summer programme held in our new space (24 to 29 July 2017).
