About this event
P LEASE NOTE THAT THE DURATION OF THIS EVENT SHOWN ABOVE IS ONLY APPROXIMATE AND CANNOT BE GUARANTEED; IT WILL DEPEND ON FACTORS SUCH AS THE WEATHER AND THE WALKING PACE OF THE GROUP.
Our Wednesday walks include a lunchtime pub stop. Requirements for meals from the pub menu are usually requested and ordered before the start of the walk by the leader. Walkers who prefer to take a picnic lunch are welcome to do so and the leader will have a place designated for this somewhere near the pub, in the village, or in the area where we are stopping for lunch.
It is very helpful for the walk leader to have prior knowledge of numbers that will be on this walk. We ask you to complete this very brief form to help with our planning of the walk to ensure that we can safely accommodate all who wish to join us. You will receive an automatic acknowledgement when you submit this form, and also a reminder of the details 2 days before the walk.
Walk leader: Brenda Cameron
Distance of walk: 7.25 miles – morning 4.75 miles (including short break), afternoon 2.5 miles. Pleasant easy walking throughout. Note: lunch at the pub is optional. For those who wish to do the morni
Meeting arrangements:
Meet by 10.30 am at The Barley Mow, Priory Square, Studley, Warwickshire, B80 7BA. Important – please note: as soon as you arrive at the pub, you must log in your car registration number using the terminal on the bar counter. This allows free parking all day. The pub will be open.
Note: lunch at the pub is optional. For those who wish to do the morning walk only, the estimated finish time is 1.30pm. Or you may prefer to bring your own lunch to eat nearby and then if you wish join the group for a drink.
Morning walk 4.75 miles: Soon after leaving the pub we enter a field, cross a small stream and follow an easy field path to a group of semi-abandoned looking farm buildings, cross attractive estate land, take a short circuit round the edge of woodland, then pick up the Arden Way which we follow to the small wooded Mars Hill where we take a short break; after briefly retracing our steps we keep to the Arden Way towards Studley Castle – not really a castle, more a Victorian fantasy incorporating a modern hotel complex. Here we get lovely views to the valley and beyond. A pleasant easy descent passes Studley church, into a field where we follow the River Arrow back to Studley for lunch.
Afternoon walk 2.5 miles: We return to the River Arrow and follow its grassy banks for three-quarters of a mile before turning off into Studley Thorns, part of the Heart of England Forest, mature trees and more recent plantings. We follow rides as they are sometimes called, good firm paths weaving in and around the woodland and open spaces. Arriving back at the church, we follow lanes back into Studley.
Expressions of Interest for this walk will close at 06.00 on Wednesday 10 September . After this, please email bhamramblersenquiries@gmail.com to enquire about any late availability for the walk.
====================================================
If you later find that you are unable to join us it would be helpful if you let us know by sending an email to bhamramblersenquiries@gmail.com - this will be passed on to the walk leader and will prevent any delay to the start of the walk should the leader be waiting for you. Please note that some walks have a waiting list so tickets are NOT TRANSFERABLE; if you are unable to join us then please cancel your place to free it up for someone who may be on the waiting list rather than passing it to someone else.
